The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:31 - So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
The Lord wants us to live in a way whereby we give Him glory in all that we do. We can do this by studying the Word, treating our loved ones with the love of Christ, and showing kindness to those in need.
But, how do believers who are in the workforce or running their businesses navigate those spaces and do so "for the glory of God?"
The corporate world can be cut-throat, with coworkers willing to sacrifice others to achieve a higher job title and salary. Ego-driven bosses can make demands for the sake of profitability that put one's beliefs into jeopardy. And when running a business, displaying the love of Christ can get an entrepreneur into trouble if they make choices that run afoul of the law or subject them to the devices of an unscrupulous person.
Hence, Christians have been forced to adjust to the world's dog-eat-dog mentality when they step into their business or workplace as they don't want to be taken advantage of.
And yet, is that what God has called us to do? Are we thereby working or running our businesses for His glory?
This is where knowing the word of God and submitting to His voice are crucial. For instance, even Jesus understood how dangerous the world could be for His followers. In Matthew 10:16, He said, “Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves..." He expected His followers to be vigilant, taking all He'd taught and applying it in every aspect of their lives. And to achieve that, He said they'd need the Holy Spirit who was sent to teach and remind each of them of what they needed to know (John 14:26).
Jesus knew that flesh was weak and would stand in the way of a believer's ability to do
all things for the glory of God. As such, His parting gift was the Holy Spirit and it is only with Him telling us which way to go that we can navigate the world of work, business, and everything else for God's glory. For when we do so, we please Him and reap the great rewards that He's promised.
So, are you walking with your Heavenly Navigator yet? If not, there is no better time to fix that than right now. And if you are already experienced at hearing the Holy Spirit, how about asking God for an even deeper connection?
Let's not waste more time, let's call out to the Lord in prayer.
Dear God. Thank You for sending Jesus Christ and the resulting benefits that came from His 33 years on earth. I am grateful.
Father, the Bible tells says we must accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior in order to receive the Holy Spirit who will serve as our guide in all things.
Today, I cry out for Jesus. I acknowledge that He is Your Son who died for me to set me free from sin. I repent for my iniquities and accept Him into my life. I receive grace, mercy, and the Holy Spirit to lead all aspects of my life for Your glory, IJMN, Amen.
Hallelujah!! We are each one step closer to living life - our careers and businesses included - in a way that glorifies our Creator!
Let's talk about practical ways we can live for the glory of God both at work and in business. God bless you.
In Jesus name, Amen.
As someone from a dog-eat-dog hustle/work environment, you have to be hyper-aware of certain behavioral traits and conditioning that do not align with the teachings of Jesus. I always try to keep Matthew 10:16 at the forefront of my mind and I am getting better at allowing the Holy Spirit to lead my decision-making and interactions.
