Friendships are an essential part of life and can either bring joy or sorrow. While satan prefers the latter, God's plan is for His people to enjoy godly friendships that honor Him while enhancing their lives. Fortunately, the relationship between Jesus Christ and His disciples teaches a lot about godly friendships and how we can have them.
Despite being the Son of God and receiving respect and reverence from His disciples, Jesus affectionately referred to them as His friends. John 15:15 - I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
These men were ordinary individuals and yet somehow, the Son of God deemed them worthy to be called His friends. Peter was, from all indications, a hot-headed man. Andrew, James, and John were mere fishermen. Matthew was a tax collector - a career that brought disdain because such men were seen as traitors who oppressed their people on behalf of the Roman Empire. Yet, once the Savior chose them to follow Him, all those worldly distinctions ceased to hold any significance. And as they walked with Him faithfully, they became more than just students. They became privy to heavenly insight and had a front-row seat to signs and wonders never seen before. He did not deprive them of the knowledge of God or His word. He made sure they understood God's power, showing them what they could do as long as they had faith.

Jesus wasn't just concerned about their spiritual health, He paid attention to the issues they dealt with in the physical. For instance, there was a time when Peter’s mother-in-law fell ill and was running a fever. He wasn't too busy to take care of the issue. Mark 1:30 tells us that once Jesus was told, He left what He was doing to see her, took her hand, and helped her up (Mark 1:31). She was instantly healed and went on to cater to Him and all the other guests. That He could drop everything to attend to His friend's mother-in-law speaks volumes of how valued His friends. Arguably, He treated them better than His own family, who He refused to speak to when they came looking for Him. Instead, He remained where He was to keep teaching people the word of God (Mark 3:31-34).
Further, Jesus also exhibited godly friendship by praying for His friends. John 17 shows that He interceded on behalf of His disciples. He prayed that they would be united and protected from satan. He didn't stop there but went on to say those same prayers for each person who would ever become His disciple.
Do you see the various ways Christ exhibited godly friendship to others? He called His disciples friends, shared His knowledge with them, addressed the issues that bothered them, and prayed for them. He was loyal to His friends and they believed in Him. He remains loyal to all who are His friends today - those who believe in Him and God the Father. We must emulate these characteristics as we deal with the godly friends placed in our lives by the Lord.
It won't always be easy, people being people they will sometimes do things that disappoint you. Nevertheless, just as Christ was able to pray for and overlook Peter's disloyalty when he denied knowing Him before the crucifixion, we must also forgive and overlook the shortcomings of our godly friends. We must remember that God is gracious with us and extend that same grace to our friends. And, we need to copy Jesus's behavior in how we relate to both Him and the Father. Doing so will strengthen our relationship and take us from servants to being friends with God the way Abraham was (Isaiah 41:8).

Heavenly Father, we face an adversary that wants us to not enjoy Your compassion. It wants us to suffer like it does for it has fallen out of Your grace. But praise be onto the Almighty! The One who grants us beautiful grace in Jesus.

Lord, Your word states in Jeremiah 30:17 - But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the LORD, ‘because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.’ Your word also states in Isaiah 38:16 - Your words and your deeds bring life to everyone, including me. Please make me healthy and strong again (CEV).
Good God, we know that the enemy wants Your children to fear but Your grace is sufficient to cast down such imaginations and thoughts. And when armed with Your word, we are armed with Your promise, a covenant You cannot break for You are He who cannot lie.

Good Lord, You alone shall get the glory for what You have done for them, IJMN, Amen.

My life is in the hands of the potter
Take me as your clay,
I surrender to You
Whether in the water or fire
Purify my heart
And I will be Your temple
The dwelling place where You are
I'm honored to be chosen
And called into Your purpose
I will be still
And know that You're with me
This I know (this I know)
This I know
I will be Your temple Ooh-ah
From JIR - I pray for my family and those who identify as Christians but aren’t living as Christians are led to dedicate time everyday to reading the Word of God. I pray that they read it with full understanding and clarity without a veil over their eyes. I pray that God moves their hearts to understand and apply what they learn to their lives. I pray that they grow in their faith and understanding and the more they read the Bible the more it becomes alive to them. I pray that God opens their hearts to receive the truth and they turn away from their old ungodly ways and are changed to live their lives for You, my Lord. IJMN. Amen.
PRAYER TIME
It is now time to petition the Lord on behalf of others.
You've taken the time to praise and worship and have thus entered His presence as stated in Psalm 100:4. DON'T WASTE THE OPPORTUNITY YOU NOW HAVE.
Put your needs to the side and lift someone else's needs in prayer.
Not sure what to pray about? Have you watched the news recently? Pray about something you saw. Inflation is eating into people's pockets around the world. Violence (hidden and overt) is destroying communities and families.
Pray for godly leadership. Call on God to help those in need. Think of something someone mentioned as a need here in P&P and ask God to do what only He can do.
Sometimes, it might seem like God is answering your prayers for others and not satisfying the desires of your heart as quickly. That just means what you're waiting on will be bigger than you asked for. That's what happened to Jairus (Luke 8).
In essence, you are in good company, especially if you serve as an intercessor. Keep praying for others. Your rewards will surely come and they will surprise you.
It is well.
From M22 - I thought to share this scripture with everyone.
Ecclesiastes 6:9-10 NLT
Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don't have. Just dreaming about nice things is meaningless-like chasing the wind. [10] Everything has already been decided. It was known long ago what each person would be. So there's no use arguing with God about your destiny.
When the pressure rise
I don't worry
Cos I know that God
Is fighting for me
Your goodness keeps me going on
Yes, God!!! The One who fights for me. The One who troubles my troublers. The One who contends with those who contend with me.
Thank You, Lord!
I want to thank You in advance for answered prayers. I thank You for the testimonies to come. I thank You for taking every evil thing and turning it to chaff. I thank You for making a mockery of every evil attack. I thank You for wrapping us in Your arms and saying, "Mine!"
God I worship You for being the pinprick of light in the darkness that grows as we train our gaze on You.
Thank You for being all that we need yesterday, today, and forever.
Praise the Lord!
From M22 - Thank you Father for seeing me and my siblings through since this week started. Thank you for your continual transformation and renewal in our lives. Even though we can't sum up or estimate what you are doing in our lives. I thank you because you have never given up on us. All glory belongs to you Abba! Amen.
Thank You Jesus for being our cornerstone. Thank You for it is on the basis of Your sacrifice that I believe and receive grace for You destroyed the works of the enemy.
Hallelujah!
When the pressure rise
I don't worry
Cos I know that God
Is fighting for me
Your goodness keeps me going on
From JIR - You in all Your glory God never ceases to amaze me. You sit high and look low. You are sovereign over all things created and in existence. Thank You for taking the time to hear me and answer my pleas. You provide me with help and comfort in my time of need. I can always count on You to make things right. You are who I look to and lean on. Thank You Lord for being my Rock and reassuring me that when times get tough You are always right by my side. IJMN. Amen.
Yahweh, thank You!
Thank You for being the only true God.
Thank You for being the One who is concerned for us.
Thank You for being the God who longs to show us compassion.
Thank You for being He who answers our prayers.
Thank You for fulfilling the desires of our hearts.
Glory, praise, honor, and adoration are Yours alone.
I shall forever adore You!
From CMC - Happy Friday!
Thank you for your words today !! I don’t know if I’m interpreting it correctly but my prayers recently have been heavily centered around friendships, for the good and for some not so good friendships.
In all ways I’m so grateful for to be here with you all today. I’m so proud of my growth in my faith and who I am today. I used to think about how hard it would be to involve God in everything I do… but lately he’s put himself first before I realize it. God has been working before I the thought could enter my mind. P&P is a big reason for this and though I don’t always post I’m always here with you guys. Faithfully every Tuesday and Friday. I pray that his blessing and grace forever cover those who gather here weekly.
God, You are good. No matter what goes on around me—You are good. You are worthy of praise because You are God. You provide for me, strengthen me, deliver me, and heal me. Even when I don’t see You at work in my life, that doesn’t change the fact that You are working. There is no one like You. So regardless of what I face today, I will praise You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
From JIR - I have come to the realization that I have struggled with hearing Your voice lately Lord and let my flesh drown out Your voice. I thought Your voice was urging me to move out of state but You are showing me that might not be the case.
Thank You Lord for continuing to guide me and teach me on how to better discern Your voice so that I don’t fall error to something like this again. I have learned that Your voice is gentle and not dominating. I have learned to always look back at Scripture to see if what I am hearing aligns with Your Word.
I am still learning and am thankful to have You beside me through it all. You are my Shepherd and I pray to be obedient to You all the days of my life. I belong to You and give my entire being to You Lord. I am Yours to do as You please, my Lord. IJMN. Amen
You are worthy, Jesus,
You are worthy.
You are worthy, to be glorified.
Hosannah in the highest!
PRAISE TIME
It's about that time again.
Lift up your voices in praise to the Father who reigns above.
Give Him glory.
Tell Him how wonderful He is.
Pour out your heart to Your awesome Father in heaven.
Trouble may come my way but I will keep my eyes on you
...
Forever and ever
Hallelujah
I've got victory
I typically wait to the end of fellowship to share my testimonies but I just thought it best to glorify God right now.
This week has been ... woah! The devil has been desperate and overreaching with attacks. When the first series didn't move me, it stepped up its game and all sorts of things started to happen around me. Still, I turned to God for help and continued praying.
Anyway, yesterday, I driving with a loved one only for smoke to start billowing out of the hood of my car. I slowly turned into the grounds of a church anticipating that I'd have insurance send a tow truck.
Then a man walked up, asked what was going on and I told him the truth - I had no clue. I enjoy watching people tinker with cars on Youtube but I have no idea about what's under the hood of my vehicle. He joked about women who just drive cars but know little about them, took a look and quickly gave an assessment.
As he worked there, he instructed me to drive slowly behind him to another part of the premises. He grabbed a hose, cooled down the engine and even brought out antifreeze (how did he have that on hand?) to pour into the car. By the time he was done, we were safe to drive the approximately 6 minutes it would take to get to my mechanic.
And my mechanic was just happy that I got to him safely because what had happened could have killed my engine and for those who know, you know what that means...
So, please allow me to praise my God!!! That this happened where it did was a blessing. That He had someone on the scene who knew what the problem was and what the temporary solution was - yes, I can say without a doubt that God lovesssss me! That this happened minutes from my mechanic and not while I was far from home - it is a long weekend over here and I'd planned to travel... yes, God is amazing!!!
Plus, the fact that because of all the mess that satan had sent my way this week, I was somehow calm and didn't freak out but was relaxed. God is surely doing serious work on me.
On Sunday, He'd used ministers at church to teach me something and as I'd looked over my notes the other day, my heart had been refreshed. He'd taught me that the archers shot bitter arrows at Joseph but the hand of God was upon him, keeping him calm and steady (Genesis 49:22-23). Genesis 49:24-25 - Yet he steadied his bow, and his strong arms were tempered by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, in the name of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel, 25 by the God of your father who helps you, and by the Almighty who blesses you, with blessings of the heavens above, with blessings of the depths below, with blessings of the breasts and womb.
This was the blessing of Jacob upon his son, Joseph, and I'd keyed into that promise from my own Father, the Lord, my Shepherd, my Rock, my Agbani Lagbatan - the One who saves completely!
Thank You, Lord, for keeping me steady. Thank You that despite everything that happened this week, You were always by my side, reassuring and strengthening me to keep going. Thank You that by Your grace, me and mine are covered by the blood and all who concern me are protected. The enemy tried to turn my eyes off You but at each attempt, You whispered that You were in control and indeed You were. You are always in control, my Big God.
I thank You, Heavenly Father for fathering me. God, I am just grateful. Please take all the glory, IJMN, Amen.
From JIR - Thank You Lord for blessing us to wake up this morning. We are able because of You and do not take the gift of life for granted. We thank You for bringing us together to praise You and pray for others. We delight in You and are grateful for this day. IJMN. Amen.
Thanks for the message @FFJ. It’s beautiful to see the amount of compassion and love that Jesus had for His disciples. Him considering them His friends shows how humble and caring He is. Sometimes before I pray and ask for forgiveness I get a bit overwhelmed reflecting on all of the sins I had committed on that day and how Jesus would react. I know Jesus loves us all so much, but it’s just in my nature to feel shame when I do something wrong. This message illustrates just how supportive Jesus is. I pray that we all have a friend in Jesus and realize that He is here to help us and guide us through life’s good and bad times. We can always count on Him and trust in Him for everything. I just pray that He is able to count on us and put His trust in us as well which is what a real friendship is all about. IJMN. Amen.
From EC - Amen and good morning ladies!
From M22 - Thank you Father for another fellowship day. We give you all the glory and honor. We are grateful that you are not just our Father but we can call your our friend too. Thank you for your mercy, goodness, kindness and faithfulness over us and our loved ones. I pray that you will continue to renew and strengthen us as we walk every single day with you. IjMN Amen.
Thank you for today's word sis @FFJ . Today's word put a smile on my face because Jesus created the standards of friendships and even relationships in general. I remember that hymn "What a Friend we have in Jesus". It is a wonderful reminder of how much Jesus loves us and cherishes our relationship with him. The New testament is a wonderful series of books that demonstrate how loyal Jesus was to people that genuinely loved and cherished him. Going to heal Peter's mother-in-law shows how far Jesus went to honor those who honored him. I just really pray that we heal from past hurt and disappointments in friendships and look to Jesus to discern godly friends and develop godly, balanced and healthy friendships moving forward. IjMN Amen
ALTAR CALL
Do you know Jesus wants a relationship with you? That He wants a friendship with you?
Christ died for His friends but also for His enemies on the cross. He allowed Himself to be a sacrifice for all of humanity and for all time.
He did this because we human beings are sinners and our sin creates a barrier in our ability to step into God's presence. God cannot abide iniquity because He is holy and so as human beings sin and sin and sin, the distance between themselves and the Lord grows larger.
But not if you become a friend of Christ. Those who choose to become His friend receive a deposit of God's Holy Spirit who helps them become more like Christ from day to day. And the more like Christ a person becomes - even if by only a little smidge - the more pleased God is and the more the distance between themself and God lessens. Christ died to make this possible. He died to ensure every human being could be redeemed, washed clean to enter God's presence.
Christ loves His friends. He will and does do almost anything for them. He is seated at the right hand of God, right now, petitioning the Lord on behalf of His friends.
I pray that you understand the need to become a friend of Jesus Christ. The benefits are huge! Just as He prayed for His disciples then, He prays for His disciples now. Just as He helped His friend Peter by healing His mother-in-law, He helps His friends with the problems they face today. He taught His friends, the disciples, everything He learned from the Lord and He's still doing that.
Are you wondering whether the benefits of being His friend won't cost too much? You don't want to give up the shows, the websites, the music, the way you speak, etc. However, have you considered the consequences of not choosing Him?
Or, maybe you think this message doesn't apply to you because you were born a Christian. You regularly go to church. You don't lie or steal and believe you are a good person.
It is wonderful to be good, but the true reward is in being a godly person who walks in the fear and obedience of the Lord. In John 14:6, Jesus said nobody can come to God except through Him, so please take this opportunity to gain access to God and His heavenly kingdom by saying the prayer below with me (and only if you mean it):
Lord Jesus I am a sinner. I confess my sins right now to you. And I believe that you are the son of God. I believe that you came, you died, you rose again, and you paid the price for my sins. Today, I accept the new life, today I accept the Holy Spirit. Come dwell in me, make Your home in me. I will never be the same again. In Jesus's name, Amen.
God bless you! I believe the Lord will visit you in a unique way. If you'd like to learn more about the new life you have signed up for, please look at this document - How to have a stronger relationship with YHWH God!
Please make prayer a regular part of your life. It is simply you talking to the Lord. Also, please start reading the Bible and ask God to make it come alive for you. It holds all the answers you need. You can start by reading the Epistle of John, the Book of Acts, and the Book of Romans. Get water baptized as quickly as you can and ask God to lead you to a church of His choosing.
PS: If you've got questions about the New Life with Christ, shoot me a message. I trust the Lord to guide our convo.
