Idle Words Block Blessings - Tuesday Praise & Pray (for others) January 19, 2021

The Bible tells us to guard our hearts/minds, for from it stems the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23 KJV). Keeping that in mind, let us also remember the warning from Jesus Christ in Matthew 12:36-37 -

But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.

Instead of 'empty words', some translations use the term 'idle words'. They are the things you say without thinking and as we can see, those little words can have big consequences.

Idle words can block the blessings God has for us. There's God trying to open the floodgates of heaven over you, but then you speak a word that essentially tells Him not to! This often happens when we think of or speak of people, places and experiences that are tied to a painful past for us.

Think back to the Bible and the experience of the Israelites in Babylon. After hundreds of years of bad behavior, the Lord allowed them to become subject to Nebuchadnezzar and a series of Babylonian and Persian rulers.

The Israelites didn't want to be captured and indeed, who would want that for themselves? Yet, that period brought forth Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Esther, Nehemiah and Ezra. Their experiences have taught us so much and as a result, today, so many have been blessed. What if these individuals had used their words to block the ways God used and blessed them in the land of captivity?

Even though we don't like the place we came from we have to remember that that place is tied to our testimony to God's glory. We must be open-minded to the possibility that God wants to use that place and indeed is using that place to bless us.

We can't see the beginning and end the way He does. Let us, therefore, not use idle words to reject God's plans. Also if we trust God completely then we will be open to whatever he is going to do even if it wouldn't be our choice.

Lord, we call on You to help us today. That we won't let the pain from our past, influence our present in such a way whereby we speak a word that blocks our blessings. We know sometimes we have to lose to win and that Your restoration is a guarantee if we but trust in You. Let not our idle words condemn us, IJN, Amen.

Hope to see you at 12 Noon for today's Praise & Pray where we'll continue to seek grace to guard our thoughts, while worshipping and interceding for others.

God bless you!
