Intercessors: Isaac - Praise & Pray (for others) December 3 2021
Isaac is the child Abraham had at 100 years old. The Bible reveals that like his father, he also acted as an intercessor. While there's plenty more to Isaac, his intercession is another example we can learn from and will focus on today.
His foray into intercession occurs in Genesis 25:21 - Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.
What might seem like a simple prayer for someone else can have huge consequences. Here, a husband prayed for his wife and by standing in the gap for her, the Lord moved and gave them twins. Esau and Jacob both became great nations - fulfilling the Lord's promise to their ancestor, Abraham. Jacob became the people of Israel - a nation of peoples that stands today. In fact, Jacob became an ancestor to Jesus Christ. And if you still wonder how important Jacob is, realize that God referred to Himself as the "God of Jacob" in Exodus 3:6.
Let us never think our prayers are too small to matter to God. He allows each of us - as intercessors - to play a role in His grand plan. It is a privilege to be a little human who gets to pray and impact big things now and in the future. God doesn't need us for anything but in His mercy and grace, He allows us to join Him in the fulfillment of His plans for creation.
We might think our prayers don't matter, but we must never be confused. Isaac said a simple prayer for his wife and became a key instrument in the outworking of God's might on the earth. He likely had no clue how important that prayer was but it made him part of the moniker God uses to call Himself, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.”
May the Lord help us to intercede our way into relevance for His kingdom and His plans here on earth, IJMN, Amen.
See you at Noon EST, when we shall praise God, petition on behalf of others and fellowship to the glory of our King.
