Jeremiah 15:19 - Therefore this is what the LORD says: “If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me; if you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman. Let this people turn to you, but you must not turn to them.
Ever heard of a recommitment ceremony? Frankly, it's just a fancy way of saying a couple is having a vow renewal. Couples used them to recognize the love they still had for each other after many years of marriage.
As believers, we must also recommit ourselves to the Lord. Doing so allows us to, once again, attest that we are servants of God. This allows us to once more acknowledge that we are in an intimate and serious relationship with Him. We need to celebrate our relationship with God. We need to once again declare that we believe in the Lord and are willing to honor Him.
You might think, 'Well, God already knows my heart. He knows how I feel about Him.' Maybe you're right, but imagine being a spouse who is never celebrated. A spouse who is expected to know how their partner feels on the inside. A spouse who is never heralded and recognized for all that she/he does.
See how unfair that would be?
For background on today's foundational scripture, Prophet Jeremiah was upset about how he was being treated because he'd chosen to serve the Lord. As we can see, the Lord told the prophet to repent and be restored in a relationship with Him. The Almighty also instructed the prophet to let go of worthless words so as to remain His spokesman. By doing these things, Jeremiah recommitted himself to God and God also renewed His promise to Jeremiah saying in Jeremiah 15:20-21 - I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue and save you,” declares the LORD. “I will save you from the hands of the wicked and deliver you from the grasp of the cruel.”
Imagine that? Absolute security - an answer to the very thing the prophet was complaining to the Lord about - was what God covenanted to give to His servant.
This Praise & Pray (for others), let us think about recommitting ourselves to the Lord Almighty. May He grant us grace to renew our relationship with Him. We praise God for His instruction to Jeremiah to repent for we know repentance opens the door to refreshing our ties to our Creator. And so, may we be ready to repent, just like Jeremiah, in order to step into the new phase of our relationship with the Sovereign Lord, IJMN, Amen.
See you at Noon EST when we'll give God praise and pray for others as we fellowship together in Praise & Pray (for others). Glory be to God in the highest!
