The Name of Jesus Pt 1 - Tuesday Praise & Pray (for others) February 1, 2022

Updated: May 30

'Jesus' is the most powerful name in all of creation. The Bible says so in Philippians 2:9 - Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name. Can you imagine having the most important name in the universe? We often think of influential people having names of importance. I'm sure you can think of a few such individuals. However, no matter how much money or power they command, their authority can never compare to the dominion contained in the name Jesus.

And that is why most people end prayers with the words In Jesus (Mighty) Name, Amen (or as I like to shorten it when typed, IJ(M)N, Amen). To me, a prayer is incomplete if the name of Jesus wasn't dragged into it. And the scripture backs me up in John 14:13 - And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. Also, John 16:23 - In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.

These verses make it clear that the name of Jesus can play a powerful role in whether or not our petitions are answered. As Jesus has promised to answer the prayers of His disciples, shouldn't we follow Him and ask for things in His name? This approach is instructive for us as intercessors. Keep in mind, Jesus Himself is an intercessor, working non-stop for us before the Lord (Romans 8:34). Therefore, approaching the Head Intercessor to help us before the Lord only makes sense. However, be cautious, God judges our prayers, weighing which ones will be answered even when the name of Jesus is invoked (James 4:3).

And when we are dealing with difficult situations in our life, we must remember that every knee will bow to the name of Jesus (Philippians 2:10) meaning, every issue bows to the name of our Savior. That issue can be a matter of health, finances, or a petition for more faith. Whatever it is you are looking for from the the Lord, go through Jesus for help. The key is to realize that we all depend on Jesus and His name for our needs. And to be successful, we need to have Him as our personal Lord and Savior. Not just saying it with our lips, but meaning it in our very marrow.

I pray that by the end of today's fellowship You will want a closer relationship with Jesus Christ, especially as you cannot walk with God without going through Jesus (John 14:6). Let us endeavor to begin a new pattern in our prayer life. A pattern of submitting all our petitions, our desires and our wants to Jesus, who having all authority can effectively intercede for us.
